Why Is It So Hard To Deal With Termites In Aubrey?

The primary issue with termite control is that it isn't straightforward. You can't just buy a product, stick it in the ground, and call it a day. It is also a bad idea to take advice from someone on the internet who claims they have a home remedy that stops termites in their tracks. While well-intentioned, those internet personalities are not licensed and certified termite control professionals. Not only do their methods lack scientific backing for efficacy, but they may also still have termites and not know it. Today, we're going to give you sound advice that is backed by science. We'll explain why it is hard to detect termites and what signs to look for even if you can't see active termites on your property. We'll look at the challenges of trying to get rid of termites in Aubrey and what makes our termites sneakier than other kinds of termites. We will conclude with actionable advice on what to do if you find termites or termite warning signs. If you have a termite infestation and want to skip to the part where you don't have a termite infestation anymore, consider navigating to our contact page. Adams Exterminating Company offers an award-winning termite control solution. We'd love to tell you about it. Connect with us for effective termite pest control in Aubrey.

Signs Of Termites To Be On The Watch For Around Your Home

There are ways to tell that you have a subterranean termite infestation. Some are better than others. Let's walk down through these warning signs in order of best to worst.

  • One little swarmer. When you see one swarmer, it's bad, but it isn't really bad. It could indicate the beginning of an infestation. The downside is that termite swarmers don't travel far from the nest they hatched in, and worker termites tunnel as far as the length of a football field to find food. But finding one termite swarmer is far better than finding a group, and since termite swarmers crawl around in the light, you may see a swarmer during the day, out in the open. Both are good.
  • Swarmer wings. When you find a tiny white wing in a spider web, check to see if it is shaped like a stretched teardrop. If so, it is a swarmer wing. When swarmers shed their wings, the wind can scatter them. Spider webs act like sticky traps and can capture the wings.
  • A handful of workers. If you pick up dead branches in your yard and find workers clinging to the bottom, that is not a good sign. But it isn't the worst of signs. Those workers could be far from their nest and they may not have started damaging your home yet.
  • Shelter tubes. Termite workers create above-ground tunnels out of soil and mud. These are often called mud tubes. The structures they create protect them from the dry air and keep them hidden from the light. You may see these on your home in sheltered areas where there is no direct light. When you see a shelter tube, you know that at some point, termite workers were feeding on your home. Break a piece off and check back in a day or two. If that piece is repaired, you have active termites in your home.
  • Termite noises. You might hear termites if you have an infestation. The sound you hear is soldier termites hitting their heads on tunnel walls. They do this in response to a threat, such as an ant invasion. This clicking or rustling sound is often subtle and you may only hear it when there is a large population of worker termites in your walls. There aren't nearly as many soldiers in a termite colony as there are workers.
  • Termite damage. Most of the damage subterranean termites do is on the inside of wood. The damage you'll likely detect are sinking floors and bulging walls. If you are fortunate, you might see damage to wood in moist areas around your home. In both cases, seeing termite damage isn't a great way to detect termites because the damage is already done.

It isn't easy to detect termites, but it is possible if you know what to look for and where to look. Let's take a quick look at what you need to know about DIY termite control.

  • Is your treatment safe around pets?
Our general treatments are safe around dogs and cats – provided they do not intentionally contact or consume applied materials before they have dried. Certain pets, especially aquatic life and reptiles, are especially vulnerable to some pesticides so it is important to be especially careful while treating when these types of pets are present. We recommend these types of pets, in addition to birds, guinea pigs, and other small animals, be kept away from the treatment area until it is safe for them to return.
  • What are the steps to take prior to receiving flea treatment?
Please review our flea treatment information sheet found here.
