Stop Fall Pests From Taking Shelter In Your Frisco Home

If you are reading this right now, it means you like being prepared. You foresee the pest problems yet to come this fall and are looking for a solution now. For this, we commend you. Today we will be discussing some of the most common fall pests and giving you some valuable tools to stop them from taking shelter in your Frisco home.

Common Fall Pests

Here in Texas, we have three common fall pests, pests—cockroaches, rodents, and wasps. Right off the bat, you don't have to worry about wasps setting up nests inside your home. More often than not, they prefer taking shelter outside, either up high or within holes in the ground. Cockroaches and rodents, on the other hand, will invade your home the first opportunity they get.

Problems Fall Pests Cause

Rodents and cockroaches bring several problems with them when they invade homes—the biggest is in the way they spread sickness. They do this when they crawl over countertops, leave behind excrement wherever they wish, and scavenge for food. Here are some of the most common diseases these pests are known to carry and transmit:

  • Polio
  • Salmonella
  • Typhoid
  • Dysentery
  • Hantavirus
  • Plague
  • Tularemia
  • Lymphocytic Choriomeningitis

In addition to spreading diseases, rodents can also be extremely destructive. Using their sharp incisor teeth, they chew through all sorts of things such as walls, ceilings, cupboards, and wiring. Their teeth are so strong they can even chew through lead.

Preventing Fall Pests

To keep these fall pests out of your home, consider the following prevention tips:

  • Seal up holes, gaps, and cracks in your foundation, around utility piping, and along the outside edges of window and door screens.
  • Install door sweeps on exterior doors.
  • Reduce moisture in and around your home by fixing leaks and installing dehumidifiers in particularly humid areas.
  • Keep leftover and boxed foods stored inside of airtight plastic containers.
  • Make sure your trash cans have tight-fitting lids.
  • Pick up pet food dishes before nightfall.
  • Clean regularly and in places that you might usually neglect, such as under stoves and refrigerators.
  • Eliminate clutter in and around your home.
